Dijon  When you think of Dijon, mustard comes to mind but Dijon is more than a condiment, it is a treasure trove of art, wine, cheese, amazing food and architecture. The art gallery is located in the old palace and is one of the best curated galleries we have seen.  Only the best paintings are displayed with amazing sculptures throughout.   We also went into the François Rude gallery which displayed some of his more famous sculptures. Our apartment was in a fantastic location but up 4 flights of stairs. 4 flights lol We spent 4 fantastic nights in Dijon and felt we could live here if the weather was far warmer. famille française Adele our beautiful friend in Brisbane grew up in Bourron-Marlotte , a French village in the province of Fontainebleau , around 100km south of Paris. Her Mum and Dad still live in the same house and graciously invited us to stay with them after no doubt being coerced by Adele who can be very persuasive.  Their ho...

Train strikes, shopping, food and wine

Trains Strike, strike strike, after a fitful Adriatic crossing from Croatia to Italy, neither of us slept particularly well even in our luxurious bunk bed cabin.  We had zero confidence that we would get a train to Bologna.   Cancelled trains greeted us and the line to the poor info desk clerk who looked like he had been at his desk for days versus an hour was very long. Eventually, we along with our new found stranded friends Eleonore (French) and Tim (Swiss) we slowly made our way on a few regional trains to Bologna. Despite the delays we had a great time conversing about the joys of travel with our new friends.    Bologna  The city of steeples (to be honest we hadn't realised that until our sister Julie-Ann mentioned it.)  Also fashion!  Wow the Italians dress well and the variety of clothes stores is amazing.  After purchasing, shoes, pants, jacket and shirts (not sure how we will fit it in our bag). The bells of Bologna which ring at ver...

The Adriatic

We decided early on in our planning of this trip that we would like to go somewhere at the half way point that we could stop, rest, recharge for the next 2 month push.  Originally we thought Greece but Christine having lived on the island of Crete for 5 months 38 years ago and now looking at Google maps that same little town is swarming in resorts and tourists Greece was a no go.  Another place on our bucket list was Croatia and we were not disappointed. From Prague we caught a non stop flight and arrived at our fantastic AirBnB at 11pm next morning we woke to the sounds of the Adriatic.  Hot and sunny a duel combo that we had not experienced thus far we headed to the beach, although weird lying on smooth pebbles at first, it does have its advantages, no sand but boy oh boy walking on them is tourture. Dubrovnik 1 Dubrovnik 2 We went on a walking tour to the old city of Dubrovnik with winding paths and many fellow tourists.  One of their prides and joys is the Onofri...
